Locally picked and collected from NC beaches. These are small batch, hand picked (with a-little love and wine, of course) coastal baubles and accessories.
Most of my ideas are born in the backyard with a glass of wine. Yet, Blackoystershellco. was born on a summer vacation in Atlantic Beach, NC. After hand collecting baby oystershells and matching them into pairs (a left and a right….. a pair of underwear are different than a pair of shoes, right?) I hatched an idea. I could make wearable art, oystershell earrings from sustainable, locally sourced, recycled treasures washed up by the salty sea. Starting an eco-friendly, slow, ethical fashion brand for women from the coast of Carolina. Made for suntans and salty skin. All washed up and ready for you to enjoy. P.S- These beauties are mounted on recycled wine and whiskey boxes from our local ABC store and @parley’s sip & steam waterfront spot overlooking the Pamlico river. Recycle. Reuse. Repurpose.

Each shell is scrubbed and hand washed (with Dawn dish soap) and air dried in the sun on my patio. I cut delicately thin tissue and paper napkins and adhere them to the shell. They are sun dried again. Next, they are gilded with gold paint and sprayed with a clear, waterproof, protectant coating and cured for 48 hours. Before turning them into their final masterpiece or work of art. These are basically made on my kitchen counter with a glass of Pinot Gris. I have picked out a full outfit for each pair, basically, virtually, wearing them before you have even purchased them. I want them all.
Take them out for a night on the town or a laid-back daytime look. They love to travel and fit with ANY vacations!
It’s that simple, so why do we “women“ make it so hard? We want minimal effort but maximum impact when it comes to getting dressed. We just want to feel pretty and look amazing time after time. Blackoystershellco. is meant to be a safe and effortless winner. FYI- it’s anaddiction, so get ready!!
Hi friends. My name is Michelle Potter Black, homegrown, in Bath, NC. I have made my adult years in Little Washington, NC. I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for 25 yrs. We have a son, Spencer and a daughter, Katie. My obsession with oystershells is as StRoNG as my love for fashion, mixing patterns and prints, and recycling ALL the things. I’m a dental hygienist for over 20 years now, teeth have always been my 1st love, but creativity is my passion!
What I Do
Hey Girl – grab a drink and come hang with me. All of my oystershell ideas were born in Atlantic Beach in barefoot, sandy toes, during my days on summer vacation obsessed with all things oystershell, especially the minis. Everyone always picks up the seashells and leaves behind the oystershells.
